Scarpa's 2017-18 Maestrale RS AT ski boot is a stiffer version of the best-selling Maestrale. This boot delivers better performance on the downhill through a new Grilamid shell that's infused with carbon fibers to add rigidity, yet each boot is about 5 ounces lighter than last year's model. Backcountry functionality is improved thanks to a new ski/walk mechanism and buckle system that increases your range of motion while touring from 37°(old model) to 60°.
Scarpa ditched the side-hinge tongue this year and replaced it with a split tongue that is bolted on — no more hinges. They also went from the almightly four buckles to three. The boot forefoot is tightened with a new cable system that eqalizes across the bottom buckle.
Carbon Grilamid LFT infuses long strand carbon fibers into Grilamid plastic to significantly increase strength and stiffness. The result is reduced weight with increased power and torsional rigidity, providing an amazing blend of power and precision in a light backcountry package. It's nice to see improvements to an already popular boot!
