The Edelrid Giga Jul belay device is a standard and assisted braking tuber in one. The assisted braking function which supports the braking force can be activated or disabled by an intelligent "green slider" mechanism. For situation-dependent belaying and abseiling, especially in alpine terrain, the Giga Jul stands as a versatile and reliable partner.

What is Assisted Braking Guide Mode? Added safety! In principle, a so-called assisted braking tuber works exactly like normal tubular belay devices, even if the shape does not always suggest it. These devices have a mechanism which, in the event of a fall, creates such strong friction that the rope can no longer run through. Therefore catching a fall is less dependent on the belayer's manual force. Assisted braking tubers offer significantly higher safety reserves than standard tubers.

Then, what are the advantages of Guide Mode? Really, it's all about universal application - belaying a leader, bringing up a second, and using a body belay. Its a lightweight tool that offers optimal dynamic belay, while also shining for rappels with a single or double ropes. Its easy to use and does not damage the rope in any way, minimizing kinking.

  • Highly versatile device, it combines the functions of a standard and an assisted braking tuber
  • Small eyelet for releasing unit with a carabiner when bringing up your partner
  • Suitable for 7.1 - 10 mm double and twin ropes
  • Intelligent hybrid design: body made of ultra-light aluminum, areas susceptible to abrasion made of robust stainless steel
  • Guide mode: simple and rapid abseiling and bringing up seconds plus comfortable belaying
  • Assisted braking guide mode: brake boost for catching falls in leader mode, less hand braking force required, and minimizing kinks in the rope
  • Rope can be paid out faster in assisted braking guide mode by holding the device in the “open” position with the thumb
