The spring on the Wingman belay device prevents the carabiner from locking when feeding the rope out. When loaded and the brake is engaged, the spring collapses and enables the device to lock. Forged and machined with aircraft aluminum, the Wingman is lightweight while dissipating the heat that comes along with a quick lower or rappel.
